The next big thing on my list for this year is to set up a subscription.
Why? Well, may not be for the reasons you would think. Writing is a lonely job. Mostly, you sit at a desk and think up stories, writing or typing them up and getting them ready for publication. You release it and then start it over again.
I still consider myself to be new to this. Yes, I have several books out on Amazon, but I am still learning so much. Except I get caught up in all the new ideas and want to try them all and then next thing I know, I’m in burn-out. Or heading that way, at least.
Now, this isn’t true for everyone. But many of the people who set up subscriptions, like on Patreon or have a Discord channel, do so for the interaction with people who read their books. Offering early access to a book is of value to many readers. I know one author whose subscription is basically funding some of her books. The people who are in that tier will get them and it is up in the air if others will ever see them.
For me, I am thinking of setting up Early Access to the current work in progress. It may be the first draft, or a second one. It will depend on what is going on then. A second tier I want to be my playroom. AI is a tool that is coming into the author world. Many hate it. I would like to play with it and if you want to join that tier, you can too. My goal is to show my vision of my characters via images. To play around with the aspects of AI audio, and so forth. We can learn together, if you are so inclined.
It’s always good to face what scares you than to just turn away from it. I believe it will be a game-changer and that those who learn how to use it now will have an advantage. Then there is this book series that is bouncing around my head…
Which comes to a third tier…Not sure when I will but it up, but for that one, I am looking for people to bounce some ideas around with. The underlying basis would be the world around AI (no, it won’t be a shifter book; more of a science fiction one). But I want it to straddle a line. As well as to be something people will want to read.
But that is in the future. The goal is for two tiers in March — Early Access and the AI playroom. I won’t have it on Patreon, but on a newer platform called REAM. I will send out the information in my newsletter as I get closer, as well as placing it here.
